The Week That Was (Nov. 26 – Dec. 2)

I’m trying to get into the swing of blogging again. I don’t have runs or workouts to log each day, so I’m not writing along and along like I used to. When I finally sat down to blog, I looked back at my planner to figure out what I actually did Mon-Thurs. Oops!

Monday

Cyber Monday! I bought a few things for Clay and a Connect 4 game for our Charleston Beer Runners Toys for Tots drive. Connect 4 was one of my favorites- it’s a fun game for all ages and teaches math skills. I hope the kid who receives it will love it as much as I did in elementary school.

Tuesday

Another busy day at work and uneventful life day. I went to BodyPump that evening and also got a Peppermint Chocolate Chip milkshake at Chick-Fil-A. We planned to put up the Christmas tree, but my arms were feeling the shoulder track from BodyPump so I wasn’t in the mood to string lights. I got a few non-tree decorations up and called it a night.

Wednesday

Brr! Coldest day so far this Fall here in Charleston. I decided to take a vacation day on Friday, so I worked to get everything done, then headed out to Mt. Pleasant for a Happy Hour that a friend hosted- he directs an entrepreneur/startup/tech group. We had wine… and more Chick-Fil-A.

Thursday

Once again, I worked like crazy to get things done so that I wouldn’t have to worry about work on Friday, my day off.

I drove out to Johns Island to pick up my packet for the Kiawah Island Marathon next weekend. The t-shirts hadn’t arrived, but the volunteer said she’d mail them or we could pick them up at the race. Even though I’m not running (and won’t be running a half or full marathon for awhile), I still want my t-shirt, which was only $41 since I signed up the day after last year’s race.

I wear several overpriced shirts from races I didn’t start due to injury. Everyone gets a shirt when they register, and Kiawah Island Marathon is a local race that I’ve run before, hope to run again, and benefits our community. I’m A-OK with being a cross-training billboard in Kiawah’s race shirt, and anyone who has enough time on their hands to worry about what another runner wears should probably find something else to do. Training more and volunteering are both great alternatives to judging.

I BodyPumped and we finally got the tree up!

Friday

I was off work on Friday, and unfortunately woke up to a dead car battery. I called roadside assistance to jumpstart my car so I could go to the shop and buy a new car battery.I can think of many better ways to spend my morning (and $170), but at least it happened at my home, and I had the money to buy the car battery without putting it on a credit card or worrying about where my next meal would come from.

I got out of the shop just in time to head to Mt. Pleasant for lunch with Clay. I met him at work, and we went to Pier 22 just over the bridge on Sullivan’s Island. I had a tuna tartare burger which was exceptional and loved the open kitchen layout of the restaurant, where we saw the chef working. All of the food at Pier 22 was fairly light, which makes for good beach eats, and I recommend it if you’re ever out on Sullivan’s Island and hungry. The island has a lot of great restaurants.

After lunch, I went to the gym and Aldi. Pretty boring.

Saturday

Clay and I planned to go to the South Carolina vs. Akron football game but decided against it since the forecast called for rain all day. We didn’t want to drive all the way to Columbia, sit in the stands for a rainy game, then drive all the way back to Charleston in wet clothes. We watched from the couch in our sweats, and seeing the wet fans, players, and coaches, we knew we made the right decision.

After the game ended, we headed downtown for a date at Sunset Sushi. I had my first bowl of “real” ramen, and Clay and I shared some sushi and sake. Chef Yoshi made us feel like family, and we are still talking about it and making plans to return. I’ll probably end up writing a post about it later.

Sunday

The rain never stopped and ended up cancelling EVERYTHING in Charleston- from Christmas parades to tree lightings to wine festivals. We slept in, then Clay helped a friend move that afternoon. That evening, I went over to a holiday party at my friends’ Anna and Stephen’s house (Clay was tired from moving and stayed home). I had soup and wine and enjoyed catching up with everyone and meeting new friends and some people who were new to the area. It was a great time and a fun way to wrap up the weekend!

What was your favorite game as a kid?

Did you put up a Christmas tree?
